The Healthy Retail & Commerce Fund (HRCF) supports small businesses that can help build healthier communities by providing financing for health-promoting businesses in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods throughout New England. This case study provides an overview of the featured partner, Southside Community Land Trust, and the impact they expect to see on community, health, and the environment. Southside Community Land Trust provides access to land, education, and other resources so people in Rhode Island can grow food in environmentally sustainable ways and create community food systems where locally-produced, affordable, and healthy food is available to all. The $2.15+ million loan from HRCF supports the development of a new Healthy FoodHub, to support local food entrepreneurs, including young people from farm to market, as well as a commercial kitchen and additional space to bring this important work to more people.
