The Healthy Retail & Commerce Fund (HRCF) supports small businesses that can help build healthier communities by providing financing for health-promoting businesses in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods throughout New England. This case study provides an overview of the featured partner, Community Servings, and the impact they expect to see on community, health, and the environment. Community Servings provides home-delivered, medically-tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families to maintain health and dignity, and to reduce healthcare costs. The $3.25 million loan from HRCF supports the expansion of operating space, enabling Community Servings to triple its production capacity, expand its nutrition education programs, and increase the number of meals served and people supported.
