August 2, 2024 (Concord, NH) – New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu signed into law today an important bill that will stop the spread of toxic chemical pollution by banning PFAS—or “forever chemicals”—in many consumer products sold in New Hampshire. Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) released the following statement in response.
“New Hampshire has taken a decisive step toward protecting our health and our environment,” said Tom Irwin, vice president of CLF New Hampshire. “So many products in our world today contain these toxic forever chemicals. By banning PFAS in consumer products starting in 2027, this law will play a critical role safeguarding the water we drink, the food we eat, and the air we breathe.”
For too long, New Hampshire communities have faced the grim reality of “forever chemicals” that have tainted our water, soil, and even our bodies. This bill prohibits the sale of many consumer products with intentionally added PFAS beginning in 2027. This includes children’s products, furniture, carpets, cosmetics, feminine hygiene products, fabric treatments, food packaging, and more.
The bill passed both the New Hampshire House and Senate earlier this year with bipartisan support.
