October 17, 2024 (Portland, ME) – Maine’s Climate Council released its draft of the state’s next climate action plan. Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) released the following statement in response.

“The climate council’s important work to reach these draft recommendations must be followed by meaningful action by the executive branch to implement them,” said Emily Green, Acting Vice President of CLF Maine. “Unfortunately, the draft lacks specifics to convert ideas into action, and falls woefully short of addressing Maine’s largest contributor of climate-warming emissions – transportation. Maine’s families and businesses deserve clean air to breathe and a healthy future that doesn’t depend on harmful fossil fuels. To safeguard Maine’s environment from the devastating impacts of climate change, we call on the Climate Council to outline actionable steps for slashing carbon pollution and to grapple with the toughest sources of emissions.”

CLF experts are available for further comment.
