The plant, owned by Granite Shore Power, pumps tens of millions of gallons of hot water, generally around 80 degrees, into the Merrimack River, which is harming wildlife.
“The injection of heat into the river creates an unnatural condition which is detrimental to many fish species,” said Tom Irwin of the Conservation Law Foundation. Irwin’s group and The Sierra Club are jointly appealing the permit about to be issued by the EPA, first introduced in 2020.
